Moore has graduated in 1947., at the university of Michigan, after which he went to San Francisco, drawn by the european values and qualities of the city, and the legacy of BRV (Bay Region Vernacular). He worked in several offices in San Francisco: at Mario Corbett, Joseph Allen Stein, and Clark & Beuttler. Then, he served in AMC (Army Corps of Engineers) for two years. After that he has acquired PhD degree in history of architecture at the Princeton University. He has got his architectural licence at the age of 21, on the day of his birth.
After graduation in 1957. he went back to the Bay Region. He believed that architecture has to elicit a response of all the organs, not only the eyesight. Acording to him, architecture should be based on the choice of the clients, and the symbolical hints of the location.
He creates a book that includes history, myth and creativity. To Charles Moore, architecture isn't all about moralizing ideas; it should be used for creating spaces that will engage users to comunicate and interact with each other.
Majority of his works has been authorised by the name of the company "MLTV"- Moore, Lyndon, Turnbull, Whitaker, which was very productive and of international importance, shortly after founding. The most important work of thet time was the Sea Ranch Condominium, or shorter, Condominium 1, in Sonoma.
Coworking, public engagement, pop culture, Hispanic heritage, toys, travel and myths - these were the contents of Moore's thoughts and works. Charles Williard Moore was the first architect with the PhD degree; the first American architect rewarded with the AIA Gold Medal reward, then the Topaz Medal; AIA 25-Year-Award for the Condominium; two AIA Firm of the Year reward... Sadly, after the heavy fight with diabetes, he died of heart failiure in 13.12.1993.year.
